For nearly five decades, The PENJERDEL Council has been the region's key business advocacy group, encouraging a regional focus on development throughout southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and northern Delaware.

PENJERDEL works to create a competetive environment that will attract and retain businesses and to solve problems that impede the tri-state region's growth and prosperity. We also strive to enhance the region's overall quality of life.

By educating members about pending issues and bringing them together with key business leaders, local, state and federal officials, the academic community and other stakeholders, PENJERDEL seeks to gain consensus and organize groups to achieve positive results.

How we work.

PENJERDEL works through a variety of subcommittees. Committees can range from transportation, aviation, and maritime activities to the environment, energy and water supply, financial services, municipal affairs, and real estate development and land usage.

As a member, you'll have an opportunity to serve on committees relevant to your business or where your expertise can make a positive contribution.

Some of our key accomplishments...

* Improving aviation facilities. PENJERDEL strives to promote efficiency, capacity, and competitiveness, to ensure that Philadelphia International Airport continues to be a vital regional economic engine.

* Championing two new Philadelphia sports stadiums, PENJERDEL worked behind the scenes to promote state-of-the-art facilities for the Phillies and Eagles, helping making Philadelphia truly a major-league city.

* Keeping the Philadelphia Naval Yard open for more than 10 years after it was scheduled to close.

* Commissioning the Delaware Valley Transportation Infrastructure Needs Assessment, calling attention to regional transportation deficiencies.

* Providing the ultimate stimuli to get the "Blue Route" built and improve Route 202 to enhance traffic flow. Transportation infrastructure such as highways and rail lines are critical to the area's prosperity.

* Helping to achieve construction of a multi-million dollar water treatment plant on the Delaware River in Burlington, NJ.

* Working with Departments of Environmental Protection throughought the region to ease Employer Trip Reduction constraints.

* Saving the Amtrak repair facility in Wilmington, Delaware.

* Promoting the Kimmel Center and Pennsylvania Convention Center - key entertainment and business assets.
